I love the ladies of this series!

At the beginning of this book, I couldn’t see how the main characters were ever going to end up together! I had to keep reading and find out. Arabella and Theodore were great characters! I enjoyed watching their feelings grow as they learned more about each other. By the end, I loved the idea of them together!

It was fun to see characters from the first book again, and to meet some great new characters as well. Grandpa and Grandma Wilder were my favorites!

I love the ladies of this series! Oh, they make me laugh! They do get into some trouble, but their hearts are so big. They are strong, confident women, yet feminine. I’m looking forward to reading Felicia’s story next!

Certain trouble for two.

I read some uncertain reviews of this book but found out after finishing it's reading that I would have missed a delightful story if I had passed it by. Two "made for each other" people clash all the way through causing laugh after laugh, a good mystery and a look at the Suffrage Movement. What's to suffer during a bit of murder and mayhem?

All of this series was amazingly fun! The circumstances are far fetched and a little crazy but it just adds to the playfulness of the books. There are some serious subjects and this one deals with the 'ladies of the night' and some adult themes but in a modest manner. The wit and romance are my favorite part!

Midnight's Captive Part 3

I can honestly say that Part 3 is reason enough to buy Midnight's Captive as a serial instead of waiting for the entire book to be released. It is one hell of a page turner! The pages within this section of the book are so incredibly action packed and full of intensity.

Britt and Aiden are well on their way to achieving the goal that he set out to obtain. Jason Wallace proves time and time again he is a far more sinister evil than anything the warriors have ever faced before. The Warriors are put in a situation they have never had to deal with and this is forcing them to look to other means of fighting the evil that is Jason Wallace. There are so many game changers in Part 3 that I will most likely remain up for the rest of the night just to see what dire circumstances Donna throws her Warriors and Druids into next. At this point in the book it is next to impossible to put it down.

Charon and Laura are trying desperately to stay alive and get through the havoc that Jason is putting them in. They know if they can just make it through this they have something that is special and passionate and worth fighting for. So that is what they are doing, fighting to live another day to stay by the others side.

The more I read of the Dragon Kings the more I want their books to hurry up and get published. Now the Diva must impatiently wait for May of 2014 for that. Hopefully they will continue to have a large role in her Dark Warrior book until that time.

Strong storyline, and great character development…

These are two of the most important things I look for when I find a new (to me) author. I have found that Ms. Grant does not disappoint. Like I said above, this author's new to me but so far I believe she may become a favorite. This series is a must read, each serial I finished, I Had to get back to find the next one. I'm thoroughly enjoying this fantasy /action/romance series.

I love Donna Grants writing, I didn't like having to get the book in pieces or instalments. I prefer to read the whole book and not have to wait for "the rest of the story" to quote Harvey. At any rate this is how I feel about it. The book was great, I really enjoy the ongoing story.

I got so caught up in this story that I couldn't put it down. The characters were so well crafted I felt like I knew them. It's the type of story you think about long after you read the last page. Very well done.

This took me by surprise

Mrs. Everson took me by surprise with this novel. The characters are definitely very southern, without being over the top or formulaic. The scene descriptions are southern as well, without feeling as though I'm being "schooled" about the deep south.

All this to say that the book drew me in, gave me a sense of place, while allowing the characters to unfold and become a part of my life. I could relate to Jo-Lynn's dilemma, as well as her family drama. And I miss the south now, thanks to this book.

Definitely a great summer read. Better than the fluff beach reads lying around, but won't tax your brain like something academic. And you won't want to put this one down till you finish it!

Midnight's Captive Part 1

The sixth book in Donna Grant's amazing Dark Warrior series is being broke down and sold initially as a serial. Readers are being given the chance to begin Charon and Laura's romance nearly a month before you can buy the book in its entirety on July 2nd.

Charon is one of the warriors that have always stayed away from the other warriors and MacLeod Castle. He harbors an insane amount of guilt due to his time inside Deirdra's torturous dungeon within the mountain of Cairn Toul. Even though he did what he did due to self-preservation he caused much harm to the other prisoners in the dungeon, his fellow Warriors.

In the first part of Midnight's Captive Laura is mostly a mystery. She is Charon's employee, an assistant. She is a diligent worker who has a secret crush on her employer. It is not until the very end that readers learn how she will play into the world itself. The attraction between Laura and Charon is big. When these two finally do decide to let each other in it will be intense.

I've known that the Dark King dragons from the Dreagan Distillery had a role within the Dark Warrior world. To see them finally get some page time within this series was a big boon for me. It also leads me to believe that we will be seeing more of them. Charon's reaction to one of the men there has given me hope that my thoughts on one of the warriors and a specific dragon may very well in fact be accurate. I just love it when I guess correctly on something.

Readers are also treated to some page time with Aiden. He has ventured outside of the protective bubble of MacLeod Castle for a research mission that may help his family and friends get a much needed leg up on the evil that is Jason Wallace. There is an added bonus of the very pretty Britt that is helping him with his task.

I was so into the story I didn't realize how close to the end I was!!

Okay, so this book starts off May 2014, which is awesome cause then Donna begins going into all the neat cars they each have and whatnots.... Charon, who has gone back to his home village after hundreds of years and his family is long gone, and sets up life right...? alright, so Jason Wallace (scumbag I tell ya... him and Mindy are just... exasperating...) Jason does however seem to have things figured out a bit further than Dierdre OR Declan.... Loved that Laura has this secret long time crush on Charon... Phelan is also coming along rather nicely in this book... And then Jason Wallace decides that he is going to try to kidnap Laura to hurt Charon as a form of revenge, and upon realizing this, Phelan and Charon are arguing about who will and how soon they will be taking Laura to safety at none other than MacLeod Castle... Laura walks in after hearing them talking and..... CLIFF HANGER!! I couldn't turn another page until I got to Wi-Fi because I didn't have [book:Midnight's Captive: Part 2|17310510] downloaded from my cloud... I bought it, but it wasn't on... physically ON my Kindle!! OH THE HORROR!! Loved this book!

I give this book 5 out of 5 shields!!

I love Donna Grants writing, I didn't like having to get the book in pieces or instalments. I prefer to read the whole book and not have to wait for "the rest of the story" to quote Harvey. At any rate this is how I feel about it. The book was great, I really enjoy the ongoing story.

"All Truth is God's Truth," Wonderfully Contextualized

This book is explores the themes of whether, and how, Christians can develop a rich and passionate life of the mind. Although it is written for Christian students bound for university, it is useful for any Christian who is serious about the intellectual life.

One of the authors' goals is to defuse the "warfare" mentality concerning faith and "secular" learning that some Christians, particularly those who are not very mature in the faith, often seem to develop. They propose to do this through the model of "Incarnational Humanism."

"Incarnational Humanism" takes the incarnation of Christ as a starting point for a Christian approach to learning. "In Christ," the authors state, "all fragmentation ends and a new humanity begins, a new creation in which all knowledge is united (or taken captive, as Paul puts it) under the lordship of Christ because in him the divine and the human are firmly joined forever." The pattern of the incarnation suggests that we should expect to find that truth is not "an abstract, timeless concept," but rather is mediated through human language, culture, and tradition. Therefore, Christians should not be afraid of truth located outside the hermetically sealed world of our particular religious subcultures.

In short, the authors place a Kuyperian notion of "common grace," as mediated for generations of Christian college students by Arthur Holmes' famous dictum that "All Truth is God's Truth," into the postmodern context. While the authors thus acknowledge the postmodern turn, they firmly deny the destructive Nietzschean postmodernism, evident in figures such as Michael Foucault, that rejects any notion of classical humanism in favor of a heuristic of power relationships.

The answer the authors suggest to Nietzsche and Foucault, however, is not a resurgent Christian rationalism dusted off from the fundamentalist-modernist controversy. Rather, they hearken back to the sort of humanism that is evident in many of the Church's great minds, such as Augustine, Aquinas, Luther, and Calvin, prior to the Enlightenment. In this classical Christian humanism, truth is more than power - indeed, truth in many ways is the antithesis of power - because the divine Truth became man and gave himself for us.

There are many riches in this book. The phrase "Incarnational Humanism" is a beautiful one that deserves broad attention, and it is high time that "All Truth is God's Truth" be given a postmodern reading. There is also, however, a glaring weakness in the authors' arguments: they do not deal adequately with the effects of sin. A model of truth that hearkens back to Augustine, but that glides over any reading of Augustine's thoughts on sin, will not present a thoroughly Christian humanism.

I wish the authors had acknowledged the tension between the incarnation and human sinfulness, and had contextualized it, as scripture and the Christian humanist tradition do, within the "already / not yet" of the Kingdom of God. Nevertheless, this is a valuable addition to the literature on the intellectual life as a Christian vocation. Let us hope that a holistic, incarnational understanding of faith and learning once again infuses the Church, rather than the rationalist, atomistic, confrontational approaches that so often seem to dominate our thinking.

Delightful read... but lacked swoon

This was the first book of Ms. Cox I've read. The writing is wonderful. I liked the plot, though I found it a little stretched at times.
I wanted more of Caleb. I felt Levi was just put into the story for the sake of a widower having a small child. I also found the romance a little flat.

Mild Historical Romance

Trouble in Store is a light read with a mystery and a mild romance at its center. I thought the setting was very well done; I really got a feeling for the town of Cedar Ridge and the landscape of Arizona. The story felt firmly set in its place in history. I really enjoyed the mercantile setting as well. I loved reading about the now historical items that customers bought then, particularly the tonics and remedies that they put such trust in. At times, the interactions in the store were quite comical, particularly during the scene where a little boy sets up his toy soldiers on customers, ahem, bustle!

The lead characters were not as compelling as I felt that they could have been, particularly the main character, Melanie. In the beginning, I felt very connected to her and empathized with her plight as a single woman without the protection of family or a guardian. I also admired her gumption to move away from everything familiar and start a new life as a partial store owner, halving ownership with Caleb, whose uncle owned half of the store before him. At times I had trouble believing that she would be as stubborn as she acted, especially when Caleb had obviously been running it longer.

Personally, I felt that Caleb was the more intriguing character, being a single father to a rather rambunctious little boy. I wanted the characters to communicate; that kind of conflict just doesn't do it for me when it could be as easily resolved as having a simple conversation.

The mystery was light & well-done. I was trying to figure out the culprit then was pleasantly surprised when it turned out that I was wrong. There is quite a colorful cast of characters going around, and I accused the wrong person for nearly the entire story.

I recommend this for readers looking for a light, historical mystery with just pinch of romance thrown in. I have Love in Disguise on my Kindle and am looking forward to reading it in the future.
